Thu.,May 1 – WALK BROOKLYN BRIDGE and North to African American Burial Site (and perhaps to Chinatown) 2-3 miles. Meet at 10:15 corner Court and Montague St. You can walk to meeting place from Borough Hall Station 2,3,4,5,R. You must call leader, Judy Mahler 718-692-2854 day before walk between 5-8PM to confirm non members pay $3.

Fri., May 2- RICHMOND TERRACE/STATEN ISLAND BOTANICAL GARDEN. 4 miles. Bring lunch/water. Meet in waiting room of SI Ferry Terminal (Manhattan Side) to take 11 AM ferry. Walk to and from Garden or extend walk into Silver Lake and Clove Lake Parks, then bus back to ferry. Leader Pat O'Malley 212-924-7486. Non members $3.

Sat., May 3 – WOODLAWN CEMETERY/BRONX RIVER PATHWAY 5-7 miles, moderate pace, ups and downs, drop out points. Many stops in cemetery. Enjoy a morning visit with many famous and interesting people residing at
Woodlawn Cemetery: our secret city in the Bronx. Lunch at Woodlawn Lake and then a brisk walk down the renovated Bronx River path. Bring lunch/water sturdy footwear recommended. Sun., May 4 – LAKE WELCH   8 miles - A delightful getaway in area not often explored. We'll be guests of the SBM, LP and Beech trails. Moderate Pace call or preferably email beforehand to make sure hike is on and if you need or can offer a ride from NYC. Take 9:11 Jersey Transit train from Penn Sta. changing at Secaucus for 9:31 to Sloatsburg arriving 10:12. Sun., May 4 – ALLEY POND PARK in Queens. 7 miles. We will walk south to north passing kettle ponds, tulip trees, Oakland Lake, Alley Pond Environmental Center and saltwater wetlands. Bring lunch. Take F train to 179th Street and Hillside Ave. (last stop) then Q43 bus to Winchester Blvd. Meet at 10 AM.  Leader will meet group at Winchester Blvd. bus stop on south side of Hillside Ave. Rain cancels. Sun May 4 – BRONX BOTANICAL GARDENS 4 mi. Let's look at beauty of Spring. Meet Grand Central Terminal Information Booth 10:50 AM to take 11:23 train. Fare $9.50 rt srs/$6 Can also take D train to Bedford Park Bvld and walk to Mosholu Gate meet at Mosholu Gate 11:45.Entrance to Garden is $3. Bring lunch/water. Sun, May 4 – CULTURAL WALKING TOUR of HISTORIC LOWER EAST SIDE 4-5 miles - after lunch continue on this interesting and educational walk. Bring lunch/water or have lunch with leaders in inexpensive Spanish Restaurant. Meet 11AM 1St Ave and Allen St . Take F to 2nd Ave Sta exit at 1st Ave side of Sta. Tue May 6 – BROOKLYN BOTANIC GARDEN Can be extended into Prospect Park. Bring or buy lunch. Take # 2 or 3 to Eastern Parkway. Meet at token booth at 11 AM Admission free. Leader Pat O'Malley 212-924-7486. Non members $3

Sat May 10 – JONES BEACH WALK Health walk on boardwalk then beach walk to Roosevelt Nature Sanctuary followed by visit to fishing piers to seek regal birds and perhaps seals. Take 9:12 LIRR train from Penn Sta to Wantaugh arriving 10:03 (Check schedule)

Sun May 11 – ROCKERFELLER STATE PARK  Bring your mother on this leisurely stroll  - appx 6 miles along some of the shady carriage roads and intimate wooded lanes with panoramic vistas in this beautiful preserve. (Please note this is not a “hike” And not designed for those looking for aerobic exercise Take 10:20 Metro North arriving Philipse Manor at 11:12 (RT fare 12.50/Srs 9.50 Can also get train  at 10:40 at Marble Hill  Sta one block from 225St stop #1 Subway (RT fare 7/Srs 3.50) Sit in 1st or 2nd car . Mon., May 12 – HACKENSACK MEADOWLANDS ENVIRONMENTAL CENTER. 6 miles, town & country, some hills, return along a very lightly traveled road with marsh on both sides. Bring lunch/water. Walk trails through marsh. Meet PABT (40th St building near Commuter Statues) at 11:10 to take 11:30 DeCamp bus #44 to Noel Drive (N. Arlington). Return from Chubb on NJ Transit bus #192. Sat May 17 – CITY ISLAND ORCHARD BEACH 6-8 miles, moderate pace, ups and downs. Walk from Pelham Bay Park to City Island, a quaint fishing village in the Bronx. Lunch on City Isl. at outdoor waterfront cafeteria or bring your lunch. Then on to Orchard Beach Nature Center. Sun May 18 – CENTRAL PARK TREE WALK  Ned Barnard author “NYC Trees-A Field Guide for the Metro Area” will escort us on a very popular tree identification walk. (Of necessity this 3 mile walk at snails pace) Meet 10:30 AM at entrance to Conservatory Garden 5th Ave and 105 St. Call or preferably email to confirm walk is on. Ned will have limited number of books for purchase @ $10.  Let me know if you want to buy a book so he has some idea of how many to bring. No pets/smoking. Sun May 18 – HARRIMAN STATE PARK 12 miles. A hike/saunter on many forest trails. some rock spawned, some along running brooks, others passing pristine lakes. We'll pass Lake Sebago, Dutch Doc. Sat., May 24 – Tottenville - Past & Present Tottenville's Main Street is like a walk through a time warp into a small town.  Victorian houses abound interspersed with modern mansions.  The Conference House was the scene of a conference during the Revolutionary War.   Bring lunch & beverage.  Take 10:30 A.M. Staten Island Ferry from Manhattan.  Please allow enough time for transportation delays, or you may miss the boat.  Meet the leaders at the SIRT train station in the rear of the St. George terminal to take the train to Tottenville..  Drivers may call leaders for instructions if needed..  Metrocard - 2 fares.  Leaders: Steve & Bettye Soffer, for more information call (718) 720-1593, between 7-9 P.M. Sat., Jun 7 – Van Cortlandt to Tibbets Brook    6-8 miles, moderate pace, hilly beginning, the rest flat. Van Cortlandt Park the Old Putnam Railway  and the Old Croton Aqueduct to Tibbets Brook Park, in Yonkers, then return to starting point Lovely woods, 2 lakes. Sat Jun 21 – MERMAID DAY PARADE and BEACH 4 mi one way, moderate comfortable paced walk along beachfront to the Mermaid Day Parade the largest Art parade in the US celebrates the beginning of  Summer. Parade participants dressed in hand made costumes as mermaids, neptunes, sea creatures and lighthouses there are antique cars , floats. Bring lunch/water sunscreen. Bad weather cancels. Sat June 28 – Osbourne Loop (Garrison). 10 miles.   Peppy pace with possible visit to Graymoor Monastery.  Late return Meet at Grand Central at the comfortable Station Master's office across from Zaro's on street level.   Walk along old carriage roads past old ponds and a restored gazebo .  Purchase R/T ticket to Garrison.  Bring lunch/drink. Rain does not cancel .  This will give hikers a chance to learn new skills, especially thunderstorm safety ) Fare: $20.50 round trip.  Leader: Mike Puder 718-743-0920 . Sun Jun 29 – MEMORIAL WALK for HENRY BLACK, IRVINGTON NY 6 mi. Short visit to Untenmeyer Estate with lovely flowers , fountains, and trees. Easy pace, downhill then all flat along the Croton Aqueduct. Beautiful  views of Hudson River. Bring lunch/water. We eat at a pretty pond. Back by 7PM optional dinner.
