Fri., July 1 OWL'S HEAD PARK PAVED WALKWAY to VERRAZANO BRIDGE.  3 miles, can extend walk to Coney Island with drop off at D train.  Take "R" train to Bay Ridge Ave. stop at 69th St and 4th Ave. and meet at 4th Ave and 68th St., SW corner at 1:00 PM.   No lunch stop but bring water.  Leader:  Pat O'Malley, 212-924-7486.  Non-members pay one day dues $3.  Free for first time participants.

Sat., Jul. 2  -  SUTTON PLACE, ROOSEVELT ISLAND, THE ISAMU NOGUCHI GARDEN MUSEUM.  Approx. 5 miles, moderate steady pace.  We'll walk through the Beekman/Sutton Place area and take the tram to Roosevelt Island.  Bring lunch/water.  After lunch we'll visit the Socrates Gardens and the Noguchi Museum.  HEAVY RAIN CANCELS!  Meet 11:00 AM inside Greenacre Park (next to 211 E. 51 St.) between 3rd and 2nd Avenues.  Take # 6 subway to 50th St. stop or E subway to Lexington Avenue stop.  Fare:  tram $2. Sat., Jul 2  -  ACME POND and WOLF POND PARKS.  6-7 miles, easy pace.  Hike through Acme Pond Pk. and then Wolf Pond Pk. Continue to the beautiful Purple Martin's Village in Lemon Creek Park.  Beautiful views from the harbor.  Bring lunch/plenty water, your binoculars and insect repellent.  NO SMOKING ON HIKE.  Take any train to Staten Island Ferry (Manhattan side) and meet in ferry waiting room for 10:30 AM ferry departure.  Fare:  MetroCard for train to Prince's Bay.  Leader:  Rolande Chapeau.  Non-members pay one day dues $3.  Free for first time participants.

Sun., Jul. 3  -  GREYSTONE to IRVINGTON VIA O.C.A.  Moderate hike on the Old Croton Aqueduct and several side trails in nearby parks.  We begin with a 150 ft. street climb and shortly after, another 150 ft. stair climb to a lookout point in Lenoir Preserve.  Afterward we go north via a series of inter-connected parks and return to the O.C.A., finish in Irvington.  Board the Hudson Line train at 1:20 PM to Greystone, arri. 1.57.  Drivers park near the Greystone Sta. Sun., Jul. 3  -  HASTINGS to TARRYTOWN.  5 miles, easy hike.  Meet at Grand Central Terminal Info Booth, upper level at 10:00 AM to take the Hudson Line train at 10:20.  Bring food and water.  Fare:  $10.50 R/T, seniors $7.00 R/T.  Leader:  George Glatz, 212-533-9457, bet. 7AM-8AM.  Joint hike with other clubs.

Mon., Jul. 4  -  CROTON POINT PARK.  7 miles, circular hike, easy.  Hike the trails with great views of the Hudson Valley.  Enjoy the 4th of July events (we may stay late, (optional)).  Bring lunch/plenty water and snacks.  NO SMOKING ON HIKE.  From GCT (42nd St.) take the Hudson Line train at 10:51 AM to Croton Harmon OR from Marble Hill (near 225th St. Sta., subway #1) at 11:10, arriving at 11:38.  Fare: $7. Thu., Jul. 7  -  LEONARD BUCK GARDENS.  3 miles.  Nice level walk to small hilly garden.  Meet at NJ transit windows near 7th Ave in Penn RR Station to take 11:13 AM train to Far Hills, NJ.  Change at Newark Broad St for 11:42 train arriving in Far Hills at 12:46.  Fares:  $14.50/$9. Sat., Jul. 9  -  SUMMIT TOUR and REEVES-REED ARBORETUM GARDEN WALK (New Jersey).  About 5 miles stop and go, trails in garden, some ups/downs, moderate pace, late lunch around 2 PM.  We'll stop to discuss the architecture and gardens.  Take New Jersey Transit RR Morristown Line in Penn Station to Summit (arrives noon).  Meet 10:30 AM at NJ Transit RR ticket windows (new 7th Avenue NJ Transit Terminal).  Bring lunch/water.  Heavy Rain Cancels!  Fare:  buy round trip to Summit.  Leaders:  Pat O'Malley, 212-924-7486, and Helen-Magione-Yee (Outdoors Club).  Non-members:  $3. Sat., Jul. 9  -  LOWER EAST SIDE WALK.  4 miles, flat.  Walk along the lower East Side to 14th St.  Enjoy the old streets like Orchard and Delancey Streets.  We walk to the Old Polish and Ukrainian neiborhoods and finish up on Union Square and 14th St.  Meet at Fulton and Water St at 11:00 AM.  Fare:  $4.00 RT.  Leader:  Sal Varbero, 718-420-9569 between 8 ? 10 PM.

Sun., Jul. 10  -  RIDGE ROAD PK/HARTS BROOK PARK. - Irish Heritage Celebration.  7 miles, easy hiking, some short hills.  Some road walking.  We'll stop at the free festival (ethnic foods, arts/crafts, entertainment and dance).  We'll continue to Hartsdale through Harts Brook Pk.  Bring lunch/plenty water.  Also insect repellent.  NO SMOKING ON HIKE.  Take D or # 4 train to Bedford Park and meet at Bedford Pk Blvd. front of # 4 train exit at 9:55 AM.  Fare:  $1.70, seniors .85? Sun., Jul. 10  -  WEIS ECOLOGY CENTER.  After a moderate 6-mile hike in Norvin Green State Forest, swim in the large outdoor freshwater pool ($5. admission).  Out around 4.  Call or email me beforehand to make sure that the hike is on, and if you need or can offer a ride from NYC.  Take the 9:30 AM #197 New Jersey Transit bus to the ?Skyline Diner? in Wanaque, arriving at 10:38.  Drivers from NYC:  Go over the GWB, then take Route 4 to Route 23, then Skyline Drive to its end; make a left on Route 511 and drive to the Skyline Diner for a shuttle to Weis Ecology.  Joint with AMC.  Sorry, no pets or minor children.  No smoking.  Leader:  Bob Susser, 212-666-4371; rsusser@aol.com.

Mon., Jul. 11  -  PRATT UNIVERSITY SCULPTURES.  2 miles, can extend walk to downtown Brooklyn.  Bring plenty water. Take A train to Hoyt-Schermerhorn; transfer to G on same platform.  Exit at rear of train (from Manhattan) at Clinton-Washington and meet at Clinton-Lafayette at 2:00 PM.  Leader:  Pat O'Malley, 212-924-7486.  Non-members pay one day dues $3.  Free for first time participants.

Mon., Jul. 11  -  EVENING WALK.  3 miles, moderate steady pace.  Walk along scenic Hudson River.  Stop at the Little Red Lighthouse, Fort Washington Park.  Sited under the George Washington Bridge, the Lighthouse is a landmark New Yorkers can take pride in.  Continue on level path towards Riverbank State Park.  Take A train (last car) to 181st Street Station.  Take escalator and cross the street to meet at 181st St and Ft. Washington Ave. by Starbucks at 5:45 PM.  Leaders:  Sam and Esther Dorfman.  Rain cancels.  Joint hikes.

Sat., Jul. 16  -  NEW YORK BAY.  We were rained out in April.  Let's try again!  We will walk along the bay under the Verrazano Bridge.  Your choice of 3 or 5 miles.  Part is sunny and breezy, part in the shade.  Bring lunch and water.  We finish with optional snack or lite supper in Bay Ridge.  We meet outside Bay Parkway Station, at the Dunkin Donuts around the corner on Bay Parkway.  Use D or M train.  Phone between 6 PM-8 PM for meeting time. Sat., Jul. 16  -  GARRISON-DENNING HILL and BACK.  11 miles, PEPPY, STEADY PACE WITH HILLS.  You must be in hiking shape to join this hike!!.  Walk on level trail to Graymoor Monastery and on to Denning Hill for a breathtaking view.  Return via road to Garrison; deli at station.  Meet at Grand Central Terminal at the Station Master's Office for train to Garrison.  Bring lunch/drink.  Fare:  $19. Sat., Jul. 16  -  PERFORMANCE ? BROOKLYN PHILHARMONIC.  Take F train to 7th Avenue stop, front car from Manhattan and meet at 6:00 PM on the benches at 9th and Prospect Park West for a quick walk about the peninsula to a picnic dinner, food may be purchased at park concessions.  Bring binoculars.  We will line up at 7:15 for performance.  Leader:  Edith Goren, please call at 718- 622-4421 for details.

Tue., Jul. 19  -  LONG PATH to LOST BROOK PRESERVE.  7 miles on trails to Tenafly Nature Center, then into Tenafly to take bus back to Port Authority Bus Terminal OR Geo Wash. Fri., Jul. 22  -  PERFORMANCE - ALLOY ORCHESTRA.  Take F train to 7th Avenue stop, front car from Manhattan and meet at 6:45 PM at Prospect Park West and 9th St.  Leader:  Edith Goren, please call at 718- 622-4421 for details.

Sat., Jul. 23  -  MT. TAURUS.  A long uphill, but rewarded with spectacular views of the Hudson Valley.  Around 6 moderately-paced miles altogether.  Call or email me beforehand to make sure that the hike is on, and if you need or can offer a ride from NYC.  Take the 9:51 AM Hudson Line train from GCT, arriving in Cold Spring at 11:07.  This train may also be boarded at 10:10 at the Marble Hill station (two blocks from the 225th St. stop on the #1 subway).  Drivers:  Take the Palisades Parkway to its end at the Bear Mountain traffic circle; go over the Bear Mountain Bridge; then north on 9D to Route 301 (which is Main St. in Cold Spring); make a left on Main St. and go to its end.  Park - temporarily - in the parking lot of the Depot Cafe, at the foot of Main St.  Joint with AMC.  Sorry, no pets or minor children.  No smoking.  Leader:  Bob Susser, 212-666-4371; rsusser@aol.com.

Sun., Jul. 24  -  ROCKLAND LAKE to NYACK.  6 miles, easy hike.  Take A train to 175th St Station and meet at George Washington Bridge Bus Terminal, upper level by the ticket windows at 10:15 AM to take 10:40 C9 bus (route 9W).  Bring food and water.  Fare:  $11.45 R/T, seniors $5.75 R/T.  Leader:  George Glatz, 212-533-9457, bet. 7AM-8 AM.  Joint hike with other clubs.

Sun., Jul 24  -  GARVIES POINT PRESERVE and MORGAN PARK.  5 miles, easy.  A circular afternoon hike through the beautiful trails in preserve and along the shore with a beach.  Very scenic ride along L.I. Sound.  Bring lunch/plenty water, and insect repellent.  Also your swimwear (optional).  NO SMOKING ON HIKE.  Take IRT # 7 train to last stop in Flushing and meet at bus pole N21/N20 past Macy's.  Bus leaves at 11:30 AM, arriv. at 12:30 to Glen Cove (Pratt Blvd/Bridge St., cars may park there).  Fare:  MetroCard.  Leader:  Rolande Chapeau.  Non-members pay one day dues $3.  Free for first time participants.

Wed., Jul. 27  -  LOWER EAST SIDE GARDENS and much else.  3 miles.  Bring lunch/water.  Take F train to East Broadway and meet at East B'way and Essex St by Seward Park at 11:30 AM.  Leader:  Pat O'Malley, 212-924-7486.  Non-members dues $3.  Free for first time participants.

Sat., Jul. 30  -  BRINTON BROOK SANCTUARY/LYTTLE ARBORETUM.  8-mile circular hike on moderate terrain with some hills.  Visit the delightful new refurbished arboretum.  Bring lunch/plenty water, also insect repellent.  Hiking Boots Recommended.  NO SMOKING ON HIKE.  From GCT (42nd St), board the Hudson Line train at 9:51 AM to Croton Harmon OR from Marble Hill at 10:10, arriving at 10:39.  Then we board W14 bus for a short ride.  Fare:  buy O/W train ticket plus a BeeLine bus transfer ticket to save, train $7, seniors $4.50, and bus $.85.   (BRING CHANGE).  Leader: Rolande Chapeau.  Non-members pay one day dues $3.  Free for first time participants.  Cars may park in C.H.

Sun., Jul. 31  -  HIGH ROCK CONCERT HIKE.  Moderate hike.  We will take the Yellow Trail from Richmond Road and Spring Street to High Rock Park (about 4 miles with some hills) to attend a free outdoor concert by the Staten Island Chamber Music Society.  Bring lunch and water.  Hiking boots recommended.  Take 10:30 AM Staten Island Ferry from Manhattan.  Please allow enough time for transportation delays, or you may miss the boat.  Take the S74 or S76 bus to Spring Street.  If you are coming from Brooklyn, you may take the S53 bus to Clove Road and Richmond Road and walk south on Richmond Rd, away from the expressway.  Leaders will meet hikers at Spring Street by 11:30 AM.  Drivers may call leaders for instructions, if needed.  Leaders:  Steve and Bettye Soffer, 718-720-1593, bet. 7PM-9PM only.

Thu., Aug. 4  -  SUNKEN FOREST on FIRE ISLAND.  5 miles, less if you choose to swim.  No bath house, no fee, but lifeguards.  Bring lunch/plenty water.  Meet at Penn Station LIRR level near ticket windows to take 9:24 AM train to Sayville.  Fares:  $9.50 each way, seniors $6.50.  Ferry to Sunken Forest (Sailor's Haven) $5.50 each way, $6.50 if we return from Cherry Grove.  Leader:  Pat O'Malley, 212-924-7486.  Non-members pay one day dues $3.  Free for first time participants.

Sat., Aug. 6  -  BOROUGH to BOROUGH, River to River.  Walk Brooklyn Bridge to Manhattan, across to Palm Court, lunch by Hudson River, visit Irish Pavilion, walk south to the Ferry and maybe end with a ferry ride to Staten Island and back.  Or we can walk up to South St. about 3 miles.  Bring lunch (or buy at Palm Court) and carry water.  Meet at the corner of Court and Montague Streets in Brooklyn.  Take N or R train to Court Street, or 2, 3 or 4 subway to Borough Hall.  Leaders:  Marty and Judy Mahler, 718/692-2854.  Call for meeting time between 6 PM- 8 PM.  Service fee for non-members is $3.

Sat., Aug. 6  -  OSBOURN LOOP, Manitou.  10 miles.  Peppy pace with possible visit to Graymoor Monastery.  LATE RETURN.  Meet at Grand Central at the Station Master's Office for train to Manitou.  Walk along old carriage roads past old ponds and a restored gazebo.  Return from Garrison.  Bring lunch/drink.  Fare:  $19.00 round trip.  Leader: Mike Puder, 718-743-0920.  Call beginning Thursday eve (til 9:30 PM) the week of hike for recorded message with details.  Joint hike w/other clubs.  Free for first time participants.

Sun., Aug. 7  -  HASTINGS CIRCULAR.  Moderate hike with ups and down hills.  Entirely with in interconnected local parks; some road walking at hike beginning and end.  Rowleys Bridge; O.C.A.; Intermeyer Park; Lenoir Preserve, Draper and Zinszer Parks.  Finish in downtown Hastings near the starting place.  Board the Hudson Line train at 1:20 PM to Hastings, arriving at 2:00 PM.  Drivers park near Hastings Station.  Leader:  Hal Kaplan, 914-376-3156.  Call on Aug./6 AM to confirm if hike is going.  Message on answering machine.

Sun., Aug. 7  -  TALLMAN PARK SWIM HIKE.  About six miles.  Easy walking thru park to state pool.  Small fee for pool, we will stay at pool about 2 hours.  Your choice to swim or not.  On to pier and Nyack via old railroad path.  Bring lunch water, swimsuit.  Meet at G.W. Sun., Aug. 7  -  TIBBETTS BROOK PARK.  4 miles, easy hike.  We will walk along the Old Putnam Division right of way.  The park is beautiful.  After lunch we can relax and take time.  Take # 1 train to last stop and meet 12 noon at 242nd St and Broadway on park side.  Bring food and water.  Leader:  George Glatz, 212-533-9457, bet. 7 AM-8 AM.  Joint hike with other clubs.

Thur., Aug. 12  -  RICHMOND TERRACE/STATEN ISLAND BOTANICAL GARDEN.  4 miles.  Bring lunch/water.  Meet in waiting room of SI ferry terminal (Manhattan side) to take 11:00 AM ferry.  Walk to and from Garden.  Leader:  Pat O'Malley, 212-924-7486.  Non-members pay one day dues $3.  Free for first time participants.

Sat., Aug. 13  -  WAGNER COLLEGE and CLOVE LAKES PARK.  4 miles.  Take a ride to Wagner College and enjoy the scenery of the beautiful campus and then we walk to Clove Lakes Park and walk along the beautiful lake.  Meet at South Ferry Terminal at 11:00 AM to take ferry to Staten Island.  Bring lunch/water.  Fare:  $4.00 RT.  Leader:  Sal Varbero, 718-420-9569 between 8 - 10 PM.  Cell:  917-825-7961.

Sat., Aug. 13  -  JONES BEACH and PRESERVE.  Circular 7 miles, easy flat.  We'll hike the boardwalk and on trails.  Choice of staying for swimming or hike.  Bring lunch/plenty water.  No smoking.  From PENN Station take the LIRR train on the lower level at 10:34 AM to Freeport, from Flatbush at 10:12 (change at Jamaica), and from Jamaica at 10:56, arriv. at 11:30.  Leader meets you downstairs in station waiting room.  Fare:  $6.75 O/W, seniors $4.50 plus MetroCard for JB62 Bus to J. Sun., Aug. 14  -  ROCKWOOD HALL PARK to PLEASANTVILLE.  9 easy miles with a few hills.  We'll start at Philipse Manor, traversing Rockwood Hall, Old Croton Aqueduct Trail, Rockefeller State Park Preserve, using the Equestrian Trail to depart to Pleasantville.  Bring lunch/water.  Meet at Grand Central Station Information Booth at 10:00 AM for 10:20 train.  Fare:  Buy one-way ticket to Philipse Manor $7.25 O/W; Seniors $4.75.  Leader:  Bob Aronson, 212-255-6884.  Joint hike with Outdoors Club.

Wed., Aug. 17  -  PARKS of WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, EVENING WALK.  3 miles at a moderate pace.  Meet at J. Hood Wright Park.  Walk around three parks for some spectacular views.  J. Hood Wright Park, Bennett Park and Fort Tryon Park.  Ft. Tryon Park was designed by F.L. Olmsted.  It is best known as home to the Cloisters.  See vistas of Hudson River and George Wash. Bridge and the highest natural point on Manhattan Island.  Take A train to 175th St. and meet at 173rd Street/Ft. Washington Avenue at entrance of the park at 5:45 PM.  Leaders:  Sam and Esther Dorfman.  Rain cancels.  Joint hikes.

Fri., Aug. 19  -  FALAISE, GUGENHEIM ESTATE.  Road walking about 2 miles each way.  Guided tour of mansion (Admission $6./$5.).  Brief walk on nature trail and along beach.  Bring lunch and beverage.  Meet near ticket windows in Penn Station, LIRR level at 10:00 AM to take 11:19 train to Port Washington OR meet at Port Wash station at 11:07.  Fare:  $6. each way.  Leader:  Pat O'Malley, 212-924-7486. Sat., Aug. 20  -  HECKSCHER STATE PARK (HIKING and SWIMMING).  7-8 miles.  This circular hike will be through the woods and beach with nice views.  Bring your swimwear (shower and booths to change).  Swimming optional.  Also bring lunch/plenty water, and insect repellent.  NO SMOKING ON HIKE.  From PENN Station, take the LIRR train on the lower level at 9:14 AM to Great River.  From Flatbush at 9:15 (change at Jamaica), and from Jamaica at 9:45, arriving at 10:37 (TIMES CHANGE, CHECK SCHEDULE).  Leader meets you in the train.  Fare:  $16.50 RT, seniors $12.  Leader:  Rolande Chapeau.  Joint with Outdoors Club.  Non-members pay one day dues $3.

Sat., Aug. 20  -  DUNDERBERG and BACK on the CORNELL TRAIL in HARRIMAN PARK.  We will climb to the top of Dunderberg Mountain with spectacular views of the Hudson River and surrounding areas, and return on an easy path through historic Doodletown.  Leader will give the history of the area.  Meet at Grand Central Terminal in the Station Master's Office to take the train to Manitou.  Leader:  Mike Puder, 718-743-0920.  Call beginning Wednesday eve (til 9:30 PM) the week of hike for recorded message with details.  Join hike w/other clubs.  Free for first time participants.

Sun., Aug. 21  -  FORT TRYON PARK to VAN CORTLAND PARK.  4 miles, easy hike with some ups and downs.  See the natural high point of Manhattan.  Bring water.  Take A train to 190th St. Station and take elevator up to Fort Washington Ave and meet at 1:00 PM.  Leader:  George Glatz, 212-533-9457, bet. 7 AM-8 AM.  Joint hike with other clubs.

Sun., Aug. 21  -  SUNKEN FOREST SPECIAL.  6-7 miles.  Slow to moderate, flat on sandy terrain.  Enjoy ranger-guided tour in Sunken Forest, the treasure of Fire Island, with spectacular views from elevated boardwalk.  Optional swimming and window shopping in Ocean Beach.  Bring lunch, water, hat and sunscreen.  Rain cancels.  From Penn Station take the 8:39 AM LIRR train to Sayville, CHECK SCHEDULE FOR TIME CHANGE.  Fare:  $19. Sun., Aug. 28  -  BLUE MOUNTAIN RESERVATION.  6-7 miles with ups and downs.  Enter the preserve from main entrance.  We'll do the easiest trails near ponds.  Bring lunch/plenty water.  NO SMOKING ON PRESERVE.  From GCT (42nd St), board the Hudson Line train at 9:51 AM to Croton Harmon OR from Marble Hill at 10:10, arriving at 10:39.  Then we board W14 bus for a short ride.  Fare:  buy O/W train ticket plus a BeeLine bus transfer ticket to save, train $7, seniors $4.50, and bus .85?.  (BRING CHANGE).  Leader: Rolande Chapeau.  Non-members pay one day dues $3.  Free for first time participants.  Cars may park in C.H.

Wed., Aug. 31  -  LONG BEACH.  2 miles.  Board walk, residential past canals.  Bring lunch/plenty water.  Meet at Penn Station, LIRR level near ticket windows to take 10:48 AM.  Fare:  $6.75 each way.  Seniors $4.50.  Leader:  Pat O'Malley, 212-924-7486.  Non-members pay one day dues $3.  Free for first time participants.
