May/June 2005

Sun., May 1  -  SCARBOROUGH to TARRYTOWN VIA O.C.A.  Moderate paced hike with some ups and downs along the Aqueduct Path with a loop into Rockefeller Park.  Eagle Hill and its view of Kykuit is our lunch spot.  Steady rain cancels.  Possible coffee stop after hike.  Board the Hudson Line train at 11:20 AM to Scarborough.  Drivers park at Tarrytown Rail Sta., board north bound at 12:10 PM to Scarborough.  (We will hike back to Tarrytown).  Leader:  Hal Kaplan, 914-376-3156.  Hike message begins on morning of 04/29.

Wed., May 4  -  LONG PATH to ENGLEWOOD BOAT BASIN/return on Shore Path.  5 miles.  Bring lunch/plenty water.  Meet at Geo Wash Bridge Bus Terminal at 10:00 AM.  Walk across bridge, stop in Ft Lee Park then on to Long Path OR avoid steep descents and follow maintenance road from south of bridge then return on Shore Path.  Leader:  Pat O’Malley, 212-924-7486.  Non-members pay one day dues $3.  Free for first time participants.

Fri., May 6  -  BAYARD CUTTING ARBORETUM.  5 miles.  Walk in wood, around lawns and along shore of Connetquot River.  Bring lunch/water.  Meet at Penn station lower level, near ticket windows to take 11:24 AM train to Great River.  Fare:  RT $26./Srs. $19. Sat., May 7  -  KENDALL SCULPTURE GARDENS.  4 miles on flat terrain.  Walk on gravel road thrugh 168-acre park – see 45 sculptures by major 20th century artists.  Trees and flower displays are labeled – benches to sit on – Lilly pond and a lake.  Bring water and lunch.  Optional stop at food court after trip.  Take # 4, 5 or # 6 train to Grand Central Terminal and meet at 10:00 AM to take Harlem Line train to White Plains, NY.  Fare:  $8., Seniors $4. each way.  Beeline Bus FREE.  Leader:  Alan Kaye, 1-718-998-3793, e-mail:  alanhkaye@aol.com.  Service fee $3. non-members.

Sun., May 8  -  HALSEY POND PARK.  7-8 miles.  Some short hills.  Walk around a lake surrounded with a pine forest.  We’ll hike on the HG trail and other trails.  Later visit the enchanting and charming Halsey Pond Park with waterfowls.  Continue through a tranquil road with ponds.  Very scenic.  Bring lunch/water.  Hiking boots recommended.  NO SMOKING ON HIKE.  From GCT (42nd St) board the Hudson Line train to Ardsley-on-Hudson at 10:20 AM OR from Marble Hill at 10:40, arriv. 11:04.  Fare:  $6./Srs 4. Tue., May 10  -  NOMADIC MUSEUM, “Ashes to Snow.”  View pictures of animals in adorable poses, also a 45-minute film.  Unique setting.  Admission “as you wish”.  Meet at 10:45 AM on SE corner of 14th St and 8th Ave.  Bring lunch to be eaten after show while we discuss it.  Then we’ll walk along the Hudson.  Many drop off points.  Leader:  Edith Goren, 718-622-4421. Thu., May 12  -  BOONTON, NJ.  3 to 6 miles.  All flat around lake and back or The Tourne:  one long gradual climb and descent.  Meet near commuter statues on the floor of Port Authority Bus Terminal, 40th St Building, at 9:10 AM to take 9:30 Lakeland bus.  Fare:  $15. Sun., May 15  -  PICNIC at the BRONX BOTANICAL GARDENS.  Approx. 3 miles.  Meet 11:00 AM at Grand Central Terminal upper level by info booth to take 11:23 train OR take D subway to Bedford Park Blvd. Station and walk East to the Gardens and meet at the Mosholu Parkway Gate at 11:44.  Bring food and water.  The club will pay the entrance fee to the Garden for members of the NYHC in good standing.  Leader:  George Glatz, 212-533-9457 bet. 7AM-8AM.  Members of other club may come, they pay their own entrance.

Sat., May 15  -  STATEN ISLAND BLUE TRAIL.  Easy to moderate 6-7 mile hike with some hills. See Staten Island in springtime – wild azaleas, rhododendrons, wisteria.  Allow enough transportation time to make the 10:30 AM ferry from Manhattan.  Meet leaders at the train station in the rear of the ferry terminal.  Bring lunch and water.  Hiking boots are recommended.  Heavy rain cancels.  Fare:  2 Metrocard trips.  Leaders:  Bettye and Steve Soffer, 718-720-1593, bet. 7PM – 9 PM.

Sun., May 15  -  LONG BEACH and ROCKAWAY BOARDWALK.  Enjoy 9-plus miles along the ocean to the end of the Rockaway Boardwalk.  Bring lunch and water.  Meet 9:30 AM near Penn Station LIRR lower level information booth to catch 9:48 train to Long Beach.  Fare:  buy one-way ticket $6.75.  Return on “A” train.  Rain cancels.  Leader:  Bob Aronson, 212-255-6884.  Joint with Shore Walkers.

Sun., May 15  -  BRONX RIVER/CRANBERRY LAKE PRESERVE.  8 miles, easy hike to Kensico Dam then do a circular through Cranberry Lake.  See the Wild Orchids and the turtles on the way to the Quarry.  Bring lunch/water.  NO SMOKING ON HIKE.  From GCT (42nd St) take the Harlem Line exp. train at 10:50 AM to North White Plains OR from Fordham the local train at 10:40, arriving at 11:25.  Fare:  O/W North White Plains $6., seniors $4.  Leader:  Rolande Chapeau.  Non-members pay one day dues $3.  Free for first time participants.  (Cars may park in N.W.P.).

Mon., May 16  -  FORT TRYON PARK GARDENS.  Meet at 11:00 AM at exit from A train on 190th St and Ft Washington Ave across circle from sign “Ft Tryon Park”.  Will extend walk through Inwood Hill Park.  Bring lunch/water.  Leader: Pat O’Malley, 212-924-7486.  Non-members pay one day dues $3.  Free for first time participants.

Wed., May 18  -  VICTORIAN SEA CLIFF.  4 miles.  A perambulatorian guide.  Few have happened upon this Gold Coast Village without falling in love with it.  Thanks go to the Matinecock Tribe and Joseph Carpenter who in 1668 bought this tract of land named in the “Musketo Cofe Patent” in 1677.  The village was known as Littleworth and later in the 1870’s became known as Sea Cliff Grove.  Meet at Penn Station LIRR, lower level by ticket windows at 10:15 AM to take train at 10:48.  Fare is approx. $12.00 round trip, seniors $9.00.  Leader:  Bernie, 718-998-3793 (before 10 PM).  RAIN CANCELS.  Joint walk with Outdoors Club.  Free for first time participants.

Thu., May 19  -  PROSPECT PARK.  Let’s explore the more wooded areas.  Take the # 2 or # 3 train to Eastern Parkway and walk north along Eastern Pkwy past the Botanic Gardens to the corner and meet at 11:30 AM at the top of the grand staircase at the Grand Army Plaza in front of the main branch Public Library.  Fare:  regular Metrocard.  A hurricane cancels.  Leader:  Edith Goren, 718-622-4421.  Non-members pay one day dues $3.  Free for first time participants.

Sat., May 21  -  FIELDSTON, RIVERDALE PARK and INWOOD PARK.  7 to 10 miles, moderate, some hills (no climbing).  Several drop off points.  Walk through the residential area of Fieldston and the wilderness of Riverdale Park.  Then (if the walking path on the Henry Hudson Bridge is reopened) to the Inwood nature center.  Bring lunch and water.  Take #1 or 9 train to 238th Street and Broadway and meet in front of the Riverdale Diner at 10:30 AM.  Fare:  $3.00.  Leader:  Leonard Morgenstern, 917-842-9490.  Non-members $3.  Free for first time participants.

Sat., May 21  -  RED HOOK, (rain date 6/04 SAT.), - unfamiliar section of the city and art on the pier.  Meet UPSTAIRS (near token booth or machines)  F train to Smith and 9th Street.  We’ll walk through part of Red Hook, eat lunch on the water, and end up at a large Art Show also on the water.  Bring lunch and drink.  Leaders:  Marty and Judy Mahler, 718/692-2854, call for meeting time between 6 and 8 PM week of the walk.  Service fee $3. non-members.

Sat., May 21  -  NEWARK, New Jersey.  5 miles moderate pace.  We will see military park – home to a number of important pieces of statuary, N.J. Historical Society, N.J. Performing Arts Center, Newark Public Library and the Newark Museum.  Historical sites to be seen to be appreciated.  Walk ends in the Iron Bound District (Portuguese and Brazilian Restaurants).  Bring lunch and water.  Meet at 10:30 AM at Penn Station, NJ Transit Ticket Windows (new concourse near 7th Avenue) for 11:08 train OR meet at Newark Penn Station Information booth at 11:30.  Fare:  $3. Sun., May 22  -  The JAMES A. McFAUL ENVIRONMENTAL CENTER.  Less than 5 miles, this 81-acre oasis is easy to walk on.  We’ll do a circular viewing 20,000 daffodils, a Nature Ctr. with indoor and outdoors animal’s displays, pond, rhododendron garden, beautiful trees and shrubs and nature trail in the forest.  Bring lunch/water.  Meet in PABT by the White Statue Commuters to take the 10:50 AM NJ Transit bus # 164 to Wortendyke (last stop).  Fare:  $3.90 seniors R/T, more for others.  Leaders:  Pat O’Malley, 212-924-7486, and Rolande Chapeau.  Non-members pay one day dues $3. Sun., May 22  -  BRONX RIVER PARKWAY, BRONXVILLE to SCARSDALE.  Hike along the Bronx River Parkway from Bronxville to Scarsdale.  Enjoy the views along the Parkway to Scarsdale.  Bring lunch/water.  Meet Grand Central Station 10:00 AM.  Fare:  $14. Tue., May 24  -  SPRING IN (TO) THE GARDEN.  BROOKLYN BOTANICAL GARDENS and part of PROSPECT PARK.  Spring in the garden.  What could be more glorious?  Bring lunch and water or eat at the kiosk.  Take 2 or 3 train to Eastern Parkway and meet near the change booth at 10:45 AM.  Admission free.  Leaders:  Judy Mahler, 718-692-2854 and Pat O’Malley, 212-924-7486.  No go in pouring rain.  Joint trip with other clubs.  Service fee $3. non-members.

Thu., May 26  -  FALLAISE, GUGGENHEIM ESTATE.  Road walking about 3 miles each way.  Guided tour of mansion (Admission $10.)  Brief walk on nature trail and along beach.  Bring lunch and beverage.  Meet near ticket windows in Penn Station, LIRR level to take 10:20 AM train to Port Washington OR meet at Port Wash Station at 11:05.  Fare:  $6. each way.  Leader: Pat O’Malley, 212-924-7486.  PLEASE CALL LEADER PRIOR TO WALK.  I may have to make final arrangements a week or so before the walk.  Non-members pay one day dues $3.  Free for first time participants.

Sat., May 28  -  SPRING FLOWER SHOW/NEW YORK BOTANICAL GARDENS.  Guided tour of flower show, garden grounds including rock garden, ornamental conifers and more.  Take # 4 or “D” train to Bedford Park Blvd then walk east or take # 26 bus east to garden gate on Mosholu Parkway and meet leader on steps of library building (Green Dome) at 11:00 AM or meet leader inside Grand Central Terminal at the information Kiosk, in the main concourse, in time to take the 10:23 Harlem Line train to the Botanical Garden Station.  Bring lunch/water or purchase at snack bar.  Fare:  Metro-North “citi-ticket” $3.00 O/W.  At garden purchase “combination ticket” – includes admission to show and grounds $13./$11 Srs.  Leaders:  Jim Peborde, 718-352-0381 and Pat O’Malley, 212-924-7486 before 9 PM.

Sat., May 28  -  BRONX RIVER PARKWAY to Valhalla.  Easy hike, about 5 miles.  Walk along the Bronx River Parkway to Valhalla.  Enjoy the walk to the Kensico Dam.  Bring lunch and beverage.  Meet at Grand Central Terminal, upper level near Information Booth at 9:15 AM.  Fare:  $14. Sun., May 29  -  ILSA and MANI FRANK and DINA TRITSCH MEMORIAL WALK in CENTRAL PARK.  5 easy miles.  After the memorial service we will have a long walk for those who want to.  Take A, C, D or # 1 train to 59th St and Columbus Circle Station and meet at corner of 59th St and Central Park West by the Maine Memorial at 1:30 PM.  We will have a short walk then hold a memorial service.  Leader:  George Glatz, 212-533-9457 bet. 7AM- 8 AM.  Joint hike with other clubs.

Sun., May 29  -  LONG PATH, PALISADES.  9 mile hike on upper Long Path.  Stop steps and one two small ups and downs, otherwise, flat but a moderate trail, so wear hiking boots.  Bring lunch, water.  Meet at 10:00 AM at the GW Bridge Bus Term. near ticket windows.  Leader:  Judy Levine, 718-482-9659.

Mon., May 30  -  GRAFF, OSCAWANA SANCTUARIES and GEORGE ISLAND.  Approx. 8 miles on moderate terrain with some hills.  Hike through 2 delightful sanctuaries, then along the boardwalk/bridge to George Islands (all very scenic).  Bring lunch/water, and also insect repellent.  NO SMOKING ON HIKE.  From GCT (42nd St), board the Hudson Line train at 9:51 AM to Croton Harmon OR from Marble Hill (near 225th St Sta subway #1) at 10:10, arriving at 10:38.  Then we board W14 bus for a short ride.  Fare:  $7./Srs $4.50 O/W.  Beeline Bus FREE.  Leader: Rolande Chapeau.  Joint hike with Outdoors.  Non-members $3.  (Cars may park in C.H.).

Fri., Jun. 3  -  PET CEMETERY.  One quarter mile.  Extend to Greenburgh Nature Center if desired, 5 miles including long hill.  Bring lunch/water.  Meet at Bedford Park Blvd (D train or # 4) and meet at W20 bus—stop under # 4 station to take 11:00 AM bus to Hartsdale.  Fare:  $1.70/Sr., .85¢ EXACT CHANGE EACH WAY.  Admission to Greenburgh $5./$4.  Leader: Pat O’Malley, 212-924-7486.  Non-members pay one day dues $3.  Free for first time participants.

Sat., Jun. 4  -  NATIONAL TRAIL DAY.  Join volunteers at High Rock Park to help clear and maintain trails, plant gardens, etc.  Come early for breakfast.  Lunches may also be provided.  Take Staten Island Ferry and S74 bus to Rockland Avenue and Richmond Road.  Walk on Rockland to Nevada, turn right and continue uphill to the parking lot at the park entrance.  See www.sigreenbelt.org for details or call Bettye and Steve Soffer at (718) 720-1593 between 7PM-9PM.

Sat., Jun. 4  -  BOTANY for BEGINNERS – FORT TRYON and INWOOD PARKS.  Moderate 4-6 miles, ups and downs.  All skill levels welcome.  Learn how to identify plants and trees using field guides.  Bring hand lens, or binoculars and field guides, water, no lunch.  Take “A” train to 190th St, then elevator to Margaret Corwin Circle and meet at park entrance at 1:00 PM.  Rain cancels.  Leaders:  Jim Peborde, (718) 352-0381 before 9:00 PM and Elizabeth Scott.  Non-members pay one day dues $3.  Free for first time participants.

Sun., Jun. 5  -  WALK THE WILLIAMSBURG BRIDGE and explore some of the old and new things happening in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.  We may be able to visit some art galleries.  We end up at a large “thrift store” around the corner from the L train.  Take F, J, M or Z subway to Delancey and Essex Street and meet on North East corner of Delancey and Essex St.  Bring lunch and water.  We’ll eat in a park on the East River.  Leaders:  Marty and Judy Mahler, 718/692-2854.  Call for meeting time between 6-8 PM during the week before the hike.  Service fee $3. non-members.

Mon., Jun. 6  -  PLANTING FIELDS ARBORETUM.  5 miles up a long gradual hill via a busy road to a conservatory with tropical and desert plants, also beautiful grounds.  Bring lunch/water.  Meet at Penn Station, LIRR level near ticket windows to take 10:00 AM train to Oyster Bay.  Fare:  $15./$8.50.  Leader: Pat O’Malley, 212-924-7486.  Non-members $3. Sat., Jun. 11  -  PARK SLOPE/GOWANUS.  City walk, 5 + miles, moderate steady pace.  We’ll walk around Park Slope and over several of the Gowanus Canal bridges.  Walk ends in downtown Brooklyn w/optional early dinner at Junior’s Restaurant.  Bring water.  Take IRT # 2 or # 3 subway to Grand Army Plaza stop in Brooklyn and walk towards the arch.  Meet after lunch at 12:45 PM in front of the library near Grand Army Plaza on Flatbush Avenue and Eastern Parkway.  Leaders:  Pat O’Malley, 212 924-7486, and Helen Mangione-Yee (Outdoors Club).  HEAVY RAIN CANCELS!  Joint with Outdoors Club.  Non-members:  $3.

Sat., Jun. 11  -  WEIR CREEK PARK/FORT SCHUYLER/FERRY POINT PARK.  8 mile flat shore hike, moderate pace.  Road walking and parks.  We’ll explore the way to go to Ferry Point Park.  Begin at Pelham Bay Pk (part near subway), getting down to Weir Creek Park, down to Fort Schuyler – visit to museum (free).  We continue through the Indian Path (vistas and varieties of water birds), and on to F. Point Pk.  Return with the Q44 either to Queens or Subway # 6.  Bring lunch/water.  Take # 6 train to Pelham Bay Park, last stop and meet at token booth at 10:15 AM.  Fare:  MetroCard.  Leader:  Rolande Chapeau.  Non-members pay one day dues $3.  Free for first time participants.

Sun., Jun. 12  -  CHELSEA CITY WALK.  Stroll through Chelsea to see historic district homes, Chelsea Piers, optional lunch at Thai Restaurant.  Take #1/9 to 23rd Street and meet leaders at 11:30 AM at NW corner of 7th Avenue and 23rd Street.  Heavy rain cancels.  Leaders:  Betty and Steve Soffer, 718-720-1593 between 7-9 PM.

Wed., June 15  -  ROSES at NEW YORK BOTANICAL GARDEN.  Take # 4 or “D” train to Bedford Park Blvd then walk east to Garden or take #26 bus to Mosholu gater OR take Harlem Line at Grand Central Terminal at 10:23 AM.  Meet on steps of library building (green dome) at 11:00 AM.  Bring lunch/water.  Fare:  Metrocard for subway, $4./$2.50 each way for train.  Admission to grounds free on Wed., admission to conservatory $10. if desired after walk on grounds and gardens.  Leader: Pat O’Malley, 212-924-7486.  Non-members pay one day dues $3.  Free for first time participants.

Thu., Jun. 16  -  GREENWOOD CEMETERY.  We seek the Monk Parrots and main entrance.  We will meager the hilly terrain and small roads of this antecedent of Central and Prospect Parks.  Bring water, there are no picnic areas in the cemetery.  Take R or M train to 25th St at 4th Ave and walk to 5th Ave to main entrance and meet at 1:00 PM.  Fare:  regular Metrocard.  Leader:  Edith Goren, 718-622-4421.  Non-members pay one day dues $3.  Free for first time participants.

Sat., Jun. 18  -  SCARBOROUGH to TARRYTOWN on OLD CROTON AQUEDUCT.  5 miles.  Lovely flat hike along Old Croton Aqueduct.  We will maintain a moderate, steady pace.  Meet at the Station Master’s Office at Grand Central Terminal.  Bring lunch and drinks.  Fare:  $7.00 one way/$4.50 seniors (get round trip ticket to Scarborough).  Leader:  Mike Puder, 718-743-0920.  Call beginning Thursday eve (till 9:30 PM) the week of hike for recorded message with details.  Joint hike w/other clubs.

Sat., Jun. 18  -  WESTSIDE PROMENADE.  5 miles at a moderate pace.  Meet at the National Museum of the American Indian at 11:00 AM at the Art Deco Post Office.  Then continuing along the Hudson River to view some interesting sights along the way.  Stop for lunch at the Winter Garden.  Bring lunch or purchase at W. Garden.  Take # 4 or 5 train to Bowling Green or R to Whitehall or #1/9 to South Ferry.  Fare:  Metrocard.  Leaders:  Sam and Esther Dorfman.  Rain cancels.  Joint hikes.

Sat., June 18  -  GROUNDS for SCULPTURE, Hamilton, N.J.  New-Arts, plants, Water, indoors and outdoors.  Multiple visual surprises at every step.  One and a half-hours by train and 2 miles walk along busy road, each way---And Worth It.  Bring lunch or buy at Café.  Meet at New NJ 7th Ave Transit ticket windows in Penn Station (7th Ave Entrance, left side) to take 10:05 AM train to Hamilton, NJ.  Fare:  R/T $20./$10.  Admission $8./$7.  Leaders:  Jim Peborde, 718-352-0381 (before 9:00 PM) and Pat O’Malley, 212-924-7486.  Non-members pay one day dues $3.  Free for first time participants.

Sun., Jun. 19  -  FORT TRYON PARK to VAN CORTLAND PARK.  Approx. 4 miles, some steep ups and downs.  See the natural high point of Manhattan.  Take A train to 190th St Station and take elevator up and meet outside the Fort Washington Ave exit of the subway at 1:00 PM.  Bring beverage.  Leader:  George Glatz, 212-533-9457, bet. 7 AM-8 AM.  Joint hike with other clubs.

Sun., Jun. 19  -  DOUGLASTON MANOR/ALLEY POND ENVIRONTL. CTR/OAKLAND LAKE.  A circular 6 miles hike, flat and easy.  Walk along Douglaston Harbor to see the new refurbished Udall Cove Preserve.  Continue around Alley Pond Creek to visit the Center, then around Oakland Lake.  Beautiful panorama.  Bring lunch/plenty water, also insect repellent.  NO SMOKING ON HIKE.  Take # 7 train to Flushing, Main Street last stop and walk to Bus Pole Q12 past Old Navy Store on Roosevelt Ave.  Bus leaves at 10:30 AM to Douglaston Pkwy (car may park around).  Fare:  use your MetroCard.  Leader:  Rolande Chapeau.  Non-members $3.  Free for first time participants.

Thu., Jun. 23  -  OLD WESTBURY GARDENS.  6 miles through nice residential section, along a road past estates.  Meet at Penn Station LIRR level to take 9:48 AM train to Westbury OR meet at Westbury Station at 10:30.  Bring lunch/water.  Fares:  $15.50 RT/Sr. $9:00 RT.  Admission to house and gardens $10./Srs. $8.  Leader:  Pat O’Malley, 212-924-7486.  Non-members pay one day dues $3.  Free for first time participants.

Sun., Jun. 26  -  JAMAICA BAY WILDLIFE REFUGE to FAR ROCKAWAY.  Approx. 6 miles, moderate steady pace.  We’ll walk on several trails in this lovely and tranquil place.  Afterwards, we’ll cross the Cross Bay Bridge and walk on the boardwalk to 44th Street in Far Rockaway.  Bring lunch and water.  Take A Far Rockaway train to Broad Channel and meet 11:00 AM near token booth at Broad Channel subway station.  HEAVY RAIN CANCELS!  Leaders:  Pat O’Malley, 212 924-7486, and Helen Mangione-Yee (Outdoors Club).  Joint w/ other Club.  Non-members:  $3.

Sun., Jun. 26  -  WESTPORT LONGSHORE CLUB PARK/COMPO BEACH. New 7-8 miles, easy on flat terrain, moderate pace (sneakers OK).  Hike along the shore in 2 parks with scenic views.  Continue on along Saugatuck River to downtown Westport through beautiful neighborhood with side parks and trails.  We’ll also pay a visit to Earthplace (The Nature Discovery Center) and back to RR along Riverside Ave.  Bring lunch/water.  NO SMOKING ON HIKE.  From GCT 42nd St. board the New Haven Line express train at 10:07 AM to Westport, CT OR the local from Fordham Station at 9:54, arriv. 11:11.  Fare:  $20.50, Srs. $10.25 R/T.  Leader:  Rolande Chapeau.  Non-members pay one day dues $3.  Free for first time participants.

Fri., July 1  -  OWL’S HEAD PARK PAVED WALKWAY to VERRAZANO BRIDGE.  3-5 miles.  Take “R” train to Bay Ridge Ave. stop at 69th St and 4th Ave. and meet at 4th Ave and 68th St., SW corner at 1:00 PM.   No lunch stop.  Leader:  Pat O’Malley, 212-924-7486.  Non-members pay one day dues $3.  Free for first time participants.

Mon., Jul. 4  -  CROTON POINT PARK.  7 miles, circular hike, easy.  Hike the trails with great views of the Hudson Valley.  Enjoy the 4th of July events (we may stay late, (optional)).  Bring lunch/plenty water and snacks.  NO SMOKING ON HIKE.  From GCT (42nd St.) take the Hudson Line train at 10:51 AM to Croton Harmon OR from Marble Hill (near 225th St. Sta., subway #1) at 11:10, arriving at 11:38.  Fare: $7. O/W; seniors $4.50.  Leader:  Rolande Chapeau.  Joint with Outdoors Club.  Free for first time participants.  (Cars may park there).
